TOURNY
hangs at ‘PLEASE WAIT’ and does not display the Login screen
~ If running VISTA – See SET UP section for
required setting changes
·
I
cannot see all the fields at the bottom of the screen
~ Set your {Task Bar to Auto Hide}
·
How
can I email results or post them onto my web site
~ Install {a PDF Writer on your PC}
so that you can create a .pdf of your reports
~ Users will need to {use a
PDF viewer} (which is freely available) to view the .pdf files
·
Acrobat
Reader is slow to open and to display PDFs
~ {Click here to view how to speed Acrobat Reader up}.
·
Printing
is not lined up correctly or is printed over 2 pages
~ Check your {printer is set to A4}
~ if this is OK {email SUPPORT}
·
Reports
do not display all the correct details
This can be caused by swapping between different reports and selection levels
TOURNY may have ‘lost’ track of the correct settings – (a logic problem)
~ Return to the MAIN screen and immediately return to the REPORTS screen
Run the required report as the first report – all data should now be
displayed correctly
( I am keen to fix all instances of this – but I need to know the steps
taken)
If you are able to duplicate this issue, please {email
SUPPORT} with the details
·
Can
I reduce the size of the data file
You can archive previous year’s data to reduce the size of the data file and
improve performance
~ See {Archiving Years}
·
I
tried transferring the data onto a floppy disk (using Data Zip to A) and then
tried using Tourn Unzip on the office computer,
but got an error message saying amongst other things "No Files
Found".
This is the correct procedure.
~ Check the following items to ensure that the data was correctly copied to
the floppy disk:
- the floppy has sufficient room – it is recommended to delete all files
first
or use ‘Delete A zip’ choice first to remove an earlier zip file
- Maybe an error displayed when copying to the floppy
After using ‘Data Zip to A’ – check for error messages before closing
the Copy window
Ensure that you wait until the copy has Finished and the floppy light
has gone out, before removing the floppy disk
- Once the data file (Torndata.mdb) gets bigger than 5 MB it will not
compact down and fit onto 1 floppy
use ‘Tourny Data Fix’ to compact the data file before using ‘Data
Zip to A’
If it still larger than 5MB, the only way is to zip up the data file
and email it to another computer
·
Which
are the correct shortcuts to use for transferring data between computers.
See Short cuts in the TOURNY Menu.
~ To transfer via a floppy:
place an empty floppy in the a: drive of the computer to copy from
Use short cut Data Zip to A - check messages and wait for floppy
light to go out
take the floppy disk to the new computer
Perform a backup first – {use shortcut}
– Copy to Backup
Use Tourny Unzip - check for messages
~ to transfer via email:
Use Create Data Zip to create a file called torndata.zip
email this file
When the email is received, copy torndata.zip to local Tourny – eg. C:/Tourny
Perform a backup first – use shortcut – Copy to Backup
Rename torndata.zip to tourny.zip
Use shortcut – Local Tourny Unzip – check for messages
·
There
is no floppy drive on A: - how can I change to use a memory stick on drive E:.
Create 2 new shortcuts.
~ Create ‘Data Zip to E’
a. Open Windows Explorer by right clicking on [Start] and selecting
'Explore':
This opens at the 'Start Menu'
Single left click on the TOURNY directory (1 level down from Start Menu)
On the right hand side, single right click on 'Data Zip to A'
- select ‘Copy’
single right click again and select ‘Paste’
Single right click on ‘Copy of Data Zip to A’ and select ‘Rename’
Type in ‘Data Zip to E’
b. Single right click on ‘Data Zip to E’
- select ‘Properties’
Select the ‘Program’ TAB
Change name to ‘Data Zip to E’
In the ‘Cmd line’ field locate ‘a:\tournwrk.zip’ – change this to ‘e:\tournwrk.zip’
Ensure ‘Close on Exit’ is checked – [x]
Click [Apply] then [OK]
~ Create ‘Tourn Unzip from E’
c. as for a. above except copy ‘Tourn Unzip’
and rename to ‘Tourn Unzip from E’
d. as for b above except change the properties of ‘Tourn Unzip from E’
·
I
get ‘Cannot open any more Tables or Queries’ message
This is a logic limit error and instances need to be reported to TOURNY support
Closing down and restarting will help by clearing the buffers that are used
(This does not mean that the PC is short of memory and needs to be upgraded)
~ Close out of TOURNY and restart
~ Check that the data looks OK in the area that you were working in
~ If the problem persists, then do a repair of the {Logic and Data
via shortcuts}
- Fix Tourny Logic and Fix Tourny Data
·
I
get ‘Run Time Initialization Error’ and TOURNY closes down
This is a logic error
~ Note the steps taken prior to this happening and {email
SUPPORT}
(I am keen to fix all occurrences of these)
·
On
Print or Print Preview get :
MS Access error with ntvadm.exe
The instruction at ‘0x77f5234c’ could not be written to memory’
~ The printer that you are trying to use is not available
Check that the default printer for your PC is correctly connected
You will get this error if you have changed the printer
·
I
get ‘WARNING – Score Type data needs to be updated
Go to TOURNAMENTS screen and select a Tournament’
However, when I go to the Tournaments screen the data is not updated
This error is generated the first time you upgrade to ver 199 or later
In some data conditions the update does not happen automatically
~ To force the data update to work:
Login as Tourny Admin
Go to the Tournaments screen and enter data in the LS Game Points
field
When [SAVE] is pressed, all data will automatically be updated
·
I
get ‘Duplicate Value in Index, Primary Key or Relationship. Changes were
unsuccessful’
The ‘Max Session Number’ may not be correct
~ Try re-sequencing the session number – press [Re-Sequence Num]
If the problem still exists:
~ Note the highest session number in the left hand column
~ Logout and login as TAdmin
~ In the MAIN screen, note the tournament number (to the right of Tournament
Name)
~ Press [Set Up Date]
~ In “Set Up Data” – press [View all Tournaments]
~ Locate the row with the same tournament number in the ‘TournID’ column
~ Locate the ‘TSNum’ column
~ this number should equal the highest session number – if not, then change the
number.

Can
I setup later rounds in advance and then assign the winners when they are known
Yes – Set up ‘temporary’ team names and when the first round has been completed
you can then update the ‘temporary’ names with the names of the winners
~ To set up ‘temporary’ names
in the ENTRANTS screen, just enter the temporary name eg ‘Winner
Pool A” in the ENTRANT NAME column and press DOWN arrow – this creates a
temporary name – (there is no associated Entrant, do not use a Code, the Seed
shows as ‘NON’ and Rank is 9999)
~ In Assign Teams screen, select Round 2 or later, and assign only
the temporary names,
eg. Winner Pool A, 2nd Pool B, 3rd Pool C etc
~ When the first round has been completed and the winners are known
<Do not go
back and change or update the entries in the ENTRANTS screen – these stay as
they are>
Select Round 2 and required Pool and press [Update Entrant]
Click on the ‘Select Entrant’ box and a list of the temporary names that are
assigned to this pool is shown
Select the one that you want to change
The ‘Select new Entrant’ list pops open – select the actual team name that
is to replace the temporary name
Press [Update]
·
How
can I change the game type once ties and matches have been created
~ In TEAMS, go to the “POOLS” form and for each Pool change the ‘Game Desc’
or Game Points’
You get to choose whether to update all matches or just those without
results.
(implemented in ver 242)
·
How
can I change the setting type so that they are different between Events
~ See notes on Setting Types
(implemented in ver 243)
·
·
How
can I assign players to Ties
In TEAMS, for each event:
~ In the “EVENTS” form set ‘Assign Players’ to
YES (Press [Save])
~ On the MAIN screen, the [Players] button is now enabled. Enter required names
into the “PLAYERS” form.
~ On the MAIN screen, the [Tie Players] button is now enabled – need to have a
Tie selected first.
~ In the “TIE PLAYERS” form, select the
required player for each position that they are to play
·
·
There
is no data to display
These 2 reports use data collected from Tie and Match results
Ensure that the POOL is not set up as ‘a Knock out Pool’
Knock out Pools (or Finals Pools) are used when there are only 2 teams in the
pool
Pool Box and Ranking reports do not display Knock out (or Finals) Pool
information
After setting a Pool to NO for ‘a knock out Pool’ – update the Pool Results –
see next issue
·
The
information displayed is not correct
These 2 reports use data collected from Tie and Match results
Try updating the Pool Results again
~ On the MAIN screen, select any completed Tie for the affected Pool
~ Press [Tie Results]
~ In the Tie Results Entry screen press [Update Pool Results]
If the issue still remains and you are entering Match Results
Try updating the Tie Results for the affected team
~ On the MAIN screen, select each completed Tie for the affected team
~ Press [Match Results]
~ In the Match screen press [Tie is complete] – this will update the Tie
Results and Pool Results
If the issue still remains, check the item ‘Reports do not display all the
correct details’ below
·
I
get ‘AName must be supplied’ after changing phone numbers and press
{ENTER}
You should press {TAB} to commit changes, not {ENTER}
After selecting a name in the names list, the [Auto Add] button is set as the
default
(expecting you to add an attachment to this player)
With [Auto Add] set as the default, you just have to press {ENTER} to add
the displayed attachment
·
I
get ‘Entrant Types have not been 'mapped' to ANames’ on Exit
Tournaments set up for Individuals need to have an ‘Entrant Type’ ie. where
are the players from e.g. Association
as in “Set up Data” form in TEAMS events. To track where a player is from,
that player needs to have a ‘current’ attachment for that Association, and the
AName of ‘Association’ needs to be ‘mapped’ to the Entrant Type of Association
