Shortcuts in the TOURNY Start Menu
TOURNY will run on any PC running Windows 95 through to Windows XP
~ It requires approx 50 MB of disk space
TOURNY is only supported on Windows VISTA provided the following settings are changed:
~ User Account Control is switched
off
~ Start / Control Panel / User Accounts
~ Click on ‘Turn User Account Control on or off’
~ Uncheck – ‘Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer’
~ A restart of the computer is required
*** Without this change :

to display the Login screen)
~ the drop down choices will not display on the TEAMS Main screen
~ The Theme is ‘Windows Classic
~ Start / Control Panel / Personalization
~ Click on ‘Theme’
~ Choose ‘Windows Classic’ from the Theme drop down list
~ Click [Apply]
~ a restart is NOT required

TOURNY is developed in Microsoft Access and the Install
package provides a Run Time version of Microsoft Access
~ you do not need to have MS Access installed on your PC
~ even if you do have MS Access, TOURNY will not use it
TOURNY consists of 2 x MS databases
~ LOGIC (Tourny.mdb) – is replaced from time to time with updates
~ DATA (Torndata.mdb) – is your data and your responsibility to keep backed up.
TOURNY provides a number of features to view the data
– you are not able to use your own copy of MS Access to view or change data.
The DATA file can be shared over a LAN (local area network),
by several PCs each running their own copy of the logic
It is recommended that the PC have email capability which is required for support.
TOURNY shortcuts indicate the location of the configuration file – tourny.ini
By default, this file is located in c:\Windows
For special shortcuts, it can be located in c:\Tourny or c:\Tourny\<dir>
The ONLY entries that a user should change (via instructions from TOURNY Support) are:
In the [Tourny] section:
~ DataDB – the location of the Tourny DATA file
~ PCNumber – used where multiple
users share the same copy of Tourny DATA
~ implemented in versions 255 and later
~ by default is set to 1 - PCNumber=1 (no spaces)
~ each shared user’s PC should be given a different PCNumber
If you
use a Screen setting of 800x600 (normally on a 15” screen)
the bottom fields on various forms may not be visible
~ this is because the Task Bar is ‘always displayed’ along the bottom of the
screen
~ to fix this set your Task Bar to ‘Auto Hide’
(for Windows 95) – START / Settings / Taskbar
Set [ ] Auto Hide to ON
Press [ OK ]
The Task Bar now disappears until you move the cursor to below the bottom of
the screen when the Task Bar will re-appear
NB: The INDIVIDUALS module has been
developed for a screen resolution of 1024 x 768
To be able to use
the 3 main forms, you will need to change your PC’s Display Settings to a
Screen Resolution of 1024 x 768

To be able to display reports on a web site or to be able to email them, you can ‘print’ the report to a PDF writer
This will create a .pdf file which you can then display or send.
A ‘free’ PDF writer is available at ![]()
- this 4.2 MB file takes about 20 minutes to download
- when installed, you end up with another printer choice – PDF995
- after viewing a report in preview mode, you can send it to PDF995
- you get to choose the name of the file and it’s location
(each time you use the ‘free’ copy – a sponsor’s page displays – which must be closed first)
(you can pay the license fee to stop the sponsor’s page from displaying)
Sample PDF reports:
~ {Pool Box / Ranking Report} (1
file 20-30 seconds to open)
~ {Tie Sheet}
If the PDF files are converted to HTML, then the information is quicker to display for the end user.
However, HTML uses 3 times the disk space and you need to use a web site which allows an administrator to FTP the files
One such product is Magellan from BCL Technologies – see {http://www.bcltechnologies.com}
Sample PDF report converted to HTML:
~ {Pool Box / Ranking Report}
(60 files – 10 seconds to open)
~ {Tie Sheet}
Sample reports are in .pdf format, which require a PDF
