Kart racing in New Zealand is governed by the Kartsport New Zealand (NZKF). There are 20 affiliated clubs with tracks dedicated solely to kart racing of which the Wellington Kart Club is one.

Wellington Kart Club, with a membership including over 100 drivers, has a track at Kaitoke, near Upper Hutt, which serves the Wellington area.

The track is just over 750 metres on the driving line and is very definitely a drivers track, with a lot of vertical component, a 100 metre straight, a 125 metre straight, a slow hairpin and two fast hairpins.  It is designed to be run in both directions and to offer many passing opportunities in one direction and limited passing opportunities in the other.
