Ghosts, Spirits and the Modern Versions

O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh

Numbers 16:22

Do spooks really exist?  Or the existence of the paranormal?  Or whattabout aliens from outer space in the far reaches of the "Grand Cosmos", covering all the weird and wonderful, from creatures partly human to partly bestial?  Or partly angelic to partly mystical, rammed in front of our faces on a daily basis!  In the name of entertainment!  Or as a scientific probability.

Not to forget to mention, all the (pseudo) scientific research, with great volumes of money spent and vast resources acquired, for
that allusive life beyond.  While having no bearing on God our Maker at all, only to false deities, gods or goddesses, stretching from the grandeur and magnificent, to the most vile and grotesque!  All with the intention to undermine God Almighty Himself, His omnipotence and divinity.

Again, not to forget to mention the present
resurgence in occult activity and mystic obsession, promoted from soft-cover books to blockbuster movies, conditioning the world with the notion these things are just a natural occurrence, while being part and  parcel of our everyday existence, throughout mans so-called evolvement to his godlike status.

In great contrast to this, does not our Maker, through His word, forbid the making of any image in the likeness of any creature in heaven, or under the sea, or under the earth?  Or after the likeness of God Almighty Himself?  Or whattabout the present preoccupation of placing the creature above the Creator?  Furthermore, does not all this resurgence in the spiritual and mystical, rule out the simple Bible believer, while supporting this new trend of Creation distortion and make-belief fascination, anyway?

Of course the Lord God our Maker, has foreseen that all this growing preoccupation with the "weird and wonderful" by fallen man, would be so easy to get caught up with.  The very reason the move to embrace these fallen caricatured creatures, whether behind a scientific facade or entertainment craze, is a major deception and a great way to get distracted in these end times, just prior to the Lord's return and His imminent judgment.  Also, why a Bible based, spirit discerning believer, could not fail to see that any carved or imagined idol or image, of any type of spiritual or mystical creature, would be nothing more than a devil manifesting its grotesque appearance, through the skilled and fabricated hands of the deceived craftsmen.  Whether through a 3D object, online monitor, or on the big screen.

The Bible does make reference to ghosts, however.  Bearing in mind these are not the spirits of the dead coming back to haunt or visit the living, by the way!  You want de evidence?  Then please read on?

I remember one experience occurring one particular night, in my own life, when I was age thirteen.  At the time I was living with my family for a brief period, in an ancient, historic village, in the West Country of England.  The scene was set when a mate and I were chatting together while hanging about in a public car park, prior to calling it a night.  From a distance, while caught up in teenage chatter, we both noticed at the same time, a dark hooded and capped figure resembling a person, walking along the street.  However, by further observance, this dark hooded, strange figure, happened to be not really walking like a usual human would, but was actually gliding along the street.  To the both of us, it looked like some hooded monk or druid priest, or something spooky out of the Dark Ages, was making its way up through the village. Especially when the shadowy creature glided past the cottage windows without blotting out the inside lights behind it, as if this thing was transparent as well.  When it passed the first window, I thought to myself that maybe I was not  seeing right.  However, moments later when it glided passed the next windows, I was certain that I was indeed thinking straight, as I could see through its form clearly this time, as witnessed by both of us.

In all my born life I have never stood next to a person with their knees knocking together so uncontrollably, as my Mate's were that pitch-black night. Was this a real ghost we had witnessed, in the biblical sense?  No, not now that I have a far clearer view on spiritual matters!  Was it a spirit?  Yes!  I don't think it could've been anything else.  From the knowledge and experience I have since acquired while being a Bible believer, this was merely an invisible spirit, physically masquerading as what is known today as an apparition.  Yes, that's what we had witnessed ... an apparition!  That's all!  What I see clearly now that I have God's word on these things, 'twas a spirit masquerading itself, momentarily, in a physical way, to to be seen with physical eye contact. Always with the devilish intent to either confuse, or install fear and uncertainty in people.  That's how the enemy operates continually, as spirits are out to do deceive and torment.  What's more ... all this is according to scripture when rightly dividing the word of truth!  The good news is, as far as God's people go ...
"God hath not given us the spirit of fear"---------- Beautiful!
Let's read on:

Spirit and spirits

The word or term ''spirit' is a very general word or term in the Bible.  It can mean any of the following seven things ... breath, life, being, notion, attitude, ghost or Divinity.  Sometimes in scripture it can mean a man's spirit.  Other times it can be referring to God's spirit (usually spelled with a capital, as we are dealing with the person of God here).  Or the word spirit can be in reference to the actual spirit world when dealing with individual spirits as individual spiritual entities ... the Devil and his allied devils in this case!

Obviously, God in His manifold wisdom has caused this to be (that's multi meanings being used for one particular word - the word spirit in this case) in order for the humble discerner to understand, while the intellectually "brilliant", self-assured, simply could not comprehend, being locked out of (privileged) revelation in this instance.

Moreover, if you are now beginning to understand this biblical truth, in regards to the spiritual world, it could be due to you rightly dividing the word of truth. On the other hand, if you feel this is upsetting you within, then maybe it is due to an inner conviction by realizing what you may have been deceived too.  Or maybe you are angry coz you are now being faced with the truth of this reality, preferring instead to remain indifferent or in denial.

Furthermore, notice how scripture very rarely calls an angel (Ps. 104:4; Heb. 1:7) or a man (Heb. 12:9) a spirit ?  That's because both these beings are, and were, clothed with bodies upon inception.  Moreover, devils
are usually referred to as spirits too, as that's exactly what they are ... disembodied spirits (note: demon is the incorrect name here for these fallen wicked spirits - meaning "lessor gods")!  Whom roam around (not 'bound' in the pit by the way) looking for a home.  Like looking for someone's or somethings living organic body, to house themselves in.  This way they act like spiritual parasites, taking control for the domain they possess, in consuming anything they can from the previous owner they have now mastered.  Here they take preference in possessing men rather than beasts.  This way they can express and manifest themselves both in a physical and intelligent sense, as they dictate the new terms through the new ground they have conquered, knowing humans are the greatest prise to conquer in their quest for overtaking their agencies and destroying mankind in general.  What I am basically saying ... the enemy is within, not without.  Moreover, the only way to find deliverance and remain free from this enemy, is to be in Christ, continually.

Remember, the case of the intruding serpent in the Garden?  Whatz more ... if the spirit can control or influence a person, then they can control or influence the physical and social environment they have arrested, for their cause of robbing, killing and destroying.  Voilą ... this present wicked and messed up world!  Plus it gives the particular devil/spirit greater access in influencing, or confusing, or controlling others, beyond the enemy's/devil's point of taken and occupied ground. As the word says in regards parasites (metaphorically - spiritual parasites in this case) ...
"the horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give"!  Like blood thirsty critters (both metaphorically and literally) they are never satisfied, in other words!

I must also reassure my readers here, that spirits (thatz the spirit of devils - REV 16:14, LUK 4:33) cannot enter a person without the loophole of sin or fear by the particular targeted person.  The saint of God can also be reassured (and reminded again) here from scripture, that "God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind."

At this point in time I need to express how the word devil (as in spirit) is really dumbed down in our language, almost to nonexistence.  The way this is effected, is through the way a slant or brush-off can be executed, in order to replace the word devil or remove it.  Obviously for some subterfuge reason and cynical agenda.  These satanic misconceptions that are promoted here, are the false endorsements typically expressed like this ...

"There is only one devil, not many, as his name being Satan!"

This expression is a half truth by the way!  Which equals a lie!  Cos even though there is one Devil (as the leader of all devils - spelled with a capital) there also exists multitudes of deceiving spirits called devils (in the lower case).  Meaning, these are working, right now, en mass and in cohorts with their leader, through smokescreening not only their intentions but existence, through subterfuge and
clandestine methods, in order to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  What's more ... they will use warmth and kindness as a gesture and ploy only, whereby they will appear very friendly and plausible on many occasions, with the sole purpose of pulling the wool over peoples eyes.  This was they can achieve their wicked intentions without trace, detection or exposure, of destroying peoples lives and taking them down to hell with them.

The other error propagated here of course, is the false doctrine that the word devil is wrong, as the word devil (in the lower case) is translated wrong, as it should be translated as the word demon or demons.  This is nothing more than another common, misinformed discourse.  Another way of cleverly keeping people misinformed and focused on the wrong thing.  Or diverted or confused of the source and object of any encountered spiritual, physical or psychological, conflicted or distressed state.  Or direct spiritual onslaught.  The reason is because the word demon means a lessor or inferior god.  Meaning, this way the Devil can be misconstrued as God (or a superior god), with his demons under him, as the lessor gods, deserving some sort of deity status they are not entitled to (ye shall be as gods), if this false doctrine happened to be true.

See the subtlety and the way this twist exalts the Devil and his devils?  If you do a quick observation from the scripture (the AB that is, and not the modern perversions), you will realize the word devil is mentioned 57 times in scripture.  More than half of the time in reference to evil spirits, and not the Devil himself.  Moreover, the word devils (in the plural) is mentioned 48 times, and is always in reference to evil spirits
and not the person of Satan himself.  Whatz more ... the 'devil' word is usually always linked in scripture to the word deceive, or evil (without the d letter in front this time), or wicked, or unclean.  Yes, they are deceiving, evil, wicked, unclean  spirits, after all.  Not demons!  Meaning, they are not inferior gods at all, ruling and in co-op with Lucifer their god.  Who Christian fundamentalists somehow, have wrongly interpreted as just meaning a more ugly and bad spirit.  A lie being propagated on a large scale, through the New Age movement and neo pagan circles.

On the other hand ...

Ghosts are always spirits!  While the modern versions use this word in a complete and twisted wrong sense.  On the other hand, the Authorized Bible is always careful how it uses this word, as a ghost is always the spirit of someone personalized!  Or individualized!  In reference, to the individual's very own being, in other words.

F'instance, when the Bible pays reference to the Spirit of God as the Holy Ghost (omitted or changed in the modern perversions - even the NKJV) it is, in actual fact, personalizing the Spirit of God.  This can mean no other spirit than the very spirit of God Himself.  Who is also expressed as a separate identity from the Son, when we look at God being both Spirit or flesh and blood (Jesus of Nazareth).  Although being the one and the same person (and God) nevertheless.

Furthermore, when a living person dies, this is called 'giving up the ghost' in scripture.  Coz the ghost of this person, is the very spirit and life of the person who dies.  It is the real person in other words ... the spirit living in the soul that leaves the body to itself (in more rapid decay and deterioration) after death.

However, the word spirit is a much broader word than the word ghost, as the word ghost can't be generalized
the same, as it is limited in its reference to being the very spirit and soul of the person himself (the part without the body).  Meaning, our ghost is with us right now ... 24/7, while we are here in the flesh.  Until death.  Being the real person housed within the outward, physical, living shell, called our body (also known now as the temple where God's Spirit dwells, upon spiritual rebirth).  Therefore, when we die, our spirit goes back to God who gave it in the first place (Ecc. 12:7) as our soul goes into a spiritual sleep mode, awaiting the resurrection for its new incorruptible, eternal body.  Whereas the present body (the temporary housing of our ghost - spirit and soul) goes back to the earth, by process of decay (death), due to mans fall into sin.

However, there is a thing misnamed in the modern bible versions and present world, called a ghost (meaning 'a spook' in this case).  Of which the Bible calls a spirit.  Not a spoke.  Nor an apparition.  Meaning, biblically a ghost can never be called or seen as a spook or apparition.  Because a ghost is just that, the spirit of the very person themselves.

On the contrary, this is where the modern twist comes in today and why a ghost is now seen in a new light ... as a spook,
apparition, or a hidden spirit, tucked away in a geographical setting or a physical dwelling.  Allowing the enemy open slaver in playing tricks on its occupants or visitors to the dwelling, when the time is right to strike.  With its victims never able to come to the knowledge of the truth and understand they have been deceived big time.  Nor able to ever pin-point the real problem and deal with it biblically and in a most effective way.  Or why these invisible personalities are spirits masquerading as the dead or poltergeists (mischievous ghosts), keeping people in a blinded state, that they are obscured for the light and being saved.

It is also the very reason the word ghost has been deliberately misconstrued, to throw man off track and become puzzled by the spirit world.   The so-called "ghost"the world portrays
, is just a visible manifestation of an evil spirit (apparition), in other words.  Meaning, it is not an evil spirit the evil spirit is portraying, but someone else that is unusual and beyond the natural, to act as a cover and diversion to its true existence.  Meaning, it is not a ghost in the real sense either.  Nor in the biblical sense, as the ghost of a person goes back to the Creator who gave it, as mentioned before, to either be cast into the fire of eternal torment after Judgment Day, or welcomed into paradise.

Therefore, the ghost the world displays, is nothing more than an illusion really.  The dead just can't come back as a visible aspiration.  The aspiration (or the ghost in stories, movies, or in the mind of man) is merely a hidden evil spirit in reality.  That's a fallen disembodied spirit, wandering in the vast spiritual wilderness (a void), looking for a physical home to inhabit.  Some body to possess, in other words.  Its purpose would be solely to bring fear or to deceive (again the reason for perplexity and sowing the seed of intrigue and allurement), in order to hide its real darkened identity and devilish intention.

To put it another way, a "ghostly" appearance would either be a physical manifestation with the intention to create fear of the unknown, or to deceive by masking a satanic agenda.   Or it would make its appearance in a straight and all out invisible presence justified, acting as a good and well meaning influence or natural trait.  This is by convincing certain people to believe they are really a friendly spiritual personality, or a deceased relative, or the dead arriving from the past.  Coming back to pay a warm and kind visit to the living.  Even with a message (no doubt a false one from Satan) of warning or good will.  Masquerading as the dead communicating with the living, to enforce temporal comfort and false reassurance, to where the deceased have not really gone and where they too cannot really end up in.  Namely, the place of eternal torment, that God has prepared for the Devil and his fallen angels (the devils)!

Moreover, you could never dissect this truth in a modern bible in regards to everything just conveyed, and get the correct balance on it.  Apart from rightly dividing from the Authorized Bible.  Furthermore, by getting God's light on this subject, this eliminates all confusion, misconception, and places everything in its true light, so the individual can avoid being deceived or obscured from the truth.  This would mean it would not matter one iota if a place was cursed or haunted by an evil presence, if one was walking in the light and obeying God's word.  Coz ... greater is he that is in you (the Bible believer) than he (the Devil) that is in the world!

Therefore, in rounding everything off in what we have just touched on, and summarizing the points made, following is a summary of the facts and scriptural insights just made:

A spirit is either
breath, life, a being (natural or spiritual), notion, attitude (as in feeling, mood, disposition, chemistry, demeanor, etc.), ghost (the real true YOU) or Divinity.

A ghost is the spirit of someone personalized to that person.  Their very being in other words.  Being a living thing/person/individual and not a dead defunct personality, who comes back to haunt or reassure the living he is okay in hi state of death (meaning, the dead can't return back to the living at times, whether for good or bad intentions).
Nor an apparition or some spiritual form, manifested as a physical appearance.

A devil is the disembodied spirit of an evil personality or entity.  That was once a magnificent angel of God before it rebelled in heaven siding with Lucifer.

The Devil is the leading spirit of these deceived disembodied evil spirits, also known as Satan.  That once was the spectacular and beautiful angel Lucifer before he fell.

An aspiration is an evil deceiving spirit, manifested using some physical appearance.  While masquerading as a deceased person (or in some other form - like a strange creature or UFO phenomenon) coming back to haunt, visit or falsely communicate with the living.  Or as glorious light.  For Satan can still APPEAR as an angel of light.  Remembering, so too can his servants, whether they are spiritual or in the flesh.

A bible is a version of the Bible, that's all (a paraphrase of the written word).  However, it usually is (dishonestly) masqueraded or promoted as a 'better update' of the written word by Satan's human emissaries disguised as servants of light.  Or hiding the fact it is only the written word of God paraphrased.  Therefore, sowing confusion while asking the serpentine trick question "hath God said", in undermining God's word, by sowing the seed of doubt in the hearers heart.

The Bible (the English Authorized - nicknamed the King James) is God's written decree for man.  Therefore, it is fully reliable in conveying revelation and assuring eternal salvation
to the hearer through Christ.

Now, time for a very important Bible study

While we are on the subject of spirits, or the meaning of spirit, lets look at the difference between the two opposite spirits the Bible calls 'the spirit of truth' and 'the spirit of error'?  It would also be a good test for readers and visitors to this site, to peruse over and think about what spirit they are lead, influenced, or driven by.  The all important question ... the spirit truth or the spirit of error?

Truth or error!?

Click on the links and compare the modern bible versions to the Holy Bible itself (the AB).  My one and only goal, is so folk may find the truth, which can only be attained by looking to the word and obeying it, while comparing truth with error in rightly dividing the word of truth:

NIV - ghost used instead of spirit, in the wrong context.  Conclusion - the spirit of error!  Proof:

Isaiah 29:4
Matthew 14:26
Mark 6:49
Luke 24:37
Luke 24:39

NASV- ghost used instead of spirit
, in the wrong contextConclusion - the spirit of error!  Proof:

Isaiah 19:3
Matthew 14:26
Mark 6:49

NKJV- ghost used instead of spirit
, in the wrong contextConclusion - the spirit of error!  Proof:

Matthew 14:26,27
Mark 6:49

AB - ghost used correctly, as it is scripturally personalizing the persons spirit.
Conclusion - the spirit of truth!  Proof:

On the links below, you will see for yourself, the truth that the word ghost represents the person's inward individual's true identity and being.  Their sovereign entity, in other words.  Whereas, the modern versions incorrectly use spirit, making the context too broad to discern the truth.

Additionally, you will find the modern versions are also inconsistent.  That's because, if their slant on a ghost was correct, then they could have easily used the word ghost here, as follows.  But they didn't.

Job 4:15.  "Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up".

Here we see an evil spirit masquerading as an apparition and not the ghost of a departed soul at all.  This is a physical manifestation of what is usually unseen or deliberately hidden.  Unless it fits a disguise, to deceive and create, or nurture a wrong mindset.

Here is a question for you dear Reader:  Today, if this happened to you as it did with Job (and it does happen, as it has happened to me as mentioned previously), what would you view this spirit as?  A deceased person coming back to communicate with you (wrongly interpreted a ghost)?  Or would you be assured enough (through God's word) that this was the Devil (using one of his devils) to perplex or implant fear in you, and keep you deceived, robbing you of the blessing of God?  Meaning, if you were firm and strong on God's word, then you would be free and strong enough in the Lord, to rebuke or just ignore it.

Looking at Samuel in the OT ... was it him or wasn't it him?

First of all, is it lawful or forbidden for a believer to contact a witch or medium?  Answer is very plain from scripture that it is strictly forbidden, along with dabbling into any occult activity.

I personally have worked and witnessed to folk (and friends) who have had loved ones or friends that got involved in seances.   If a spirit has not entered into them (their loved ones or friends) through the seances at the time of contact (through them willingly yielding themselves to this spirit during or just after the participation), it would usually only be a matter of days or weeks when it would occur.  That's coz, no one can play with fire, and get away with it!

I have personally had people tell me
(and you may have too) how their partner or spouse had woken up during a night, covered in a cold sweat and gripped with utter fear.  Then they, out of desperation or deep concern, have continued on telling me how something evil had come over their partner in what appeared to them as a real encountered dream, waking them out of their sleep, while suffocating them and making it hard for them to breath.  It was though in their sleep, their partner was very conscious that the nightmare attack on them was real, just like they were awake when it happened.

Please let me explain (as I explained to them at the time) how this was the spirit they had opened themselves up to previously, entering into them.  Basically, this was due to the fact they had opened themselves up to the supernatural by yielding to the occult through a ritual, or some sort of rite, they had willingly been involved with and yielded to.  It is no accident that they also had told me that after the bad experience, their partner had gone through some sort of change process for the worse, affecting their behavior or personality to a noticeable degree.

One man I was witnessing to told me how his dear, beautiful, submissive wife, had changed virtually overnight since the same experience she encountered, in waking up during one of these strange nightmares.  Then not long after, left him for someone much younger than herself, after she started going-off the rails in general.  He also went unto explain how the attack only took place a night or two after she took part in a seance.  Also, at this occultic event, she was the most reluctant person to join in (it was her first time) due to her upbringing in knowing right from wrong  Then after much convincing and pressure from everyone else present, she finally joined in, linking hands with the others in the circle chain, as the glass on the table went absolutely berserk, spinning out of control.

Like an aspiration, this spinning glass was a physical manifestation, of an invisible spirit, that was out to deceive, taking hold and control of the any willing participants/s who were opening themselves up to the supernatural through this occultic event.  Understanding it could only do this by the cooperation of someone, willfully yielding to it.  Now can you see how these things take root in peoples lives, by finding a loophole to enter?  God's principle in His word is so simple ... Obey His word and then you shall be blessed! Disobey His word and then you shall be cursed!  The simple biblical principal of blessings and cursings!

A curse is a horrid, horrid thing!  It does not go away and robs you of peace and contentment.  It shows itself by placing you in a catch'22 situation continually.  The only way you can get full freedom from it is renouncement to the thing that triggered it off, with repentance towards God through Jesus.  For a better understanding of a curse, think of ongoing quandary, predicament, unfruitfulness, restriction and bringing awkwardness and embarrassment towards you always, in a particular area of your life.

Rom.6:16. "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"

Now, back to Samuel

When rebellious Saul went to a medium to conjure up Samuel, would the Lord use a spiritist to bring him back from the dead?  Even though the person is referred to as Samuel in scripture, familiar spirits not only counterfeit the person, but take on that person's name.  Hence, this was Samuel the spirit, not Samuel the prophet, we find here.  It was a familiar spirit of Samuel called Samuel.  This is also why so many people are deceived by mediums or spiritists.  They are really convinced they have actually meet up with their deceased loved one or friend, with emotion and sentiment taking control, and blocking out reason.  This is because the familiar spirit appears identical in appearance and voice, to the person who once lived.  Because the Strongman Jesus talked about being in someone's life (the most entrenched evil spirit in this particular person's life) was never bound and dealt with before the person passed away, this Strongman has full knowledge of the person's traits and idiosyncrasies.

These spirits are experts in other words, in duplicating people and replacing them.  Even adopting their name.  They have been around a lot longer than us, and now us and our traits, a lot more than we can give credit to.  Just read the gospels again, and see the wisdom, knowledge  and clever tactics they display.  Did you know there is even an evil spirit called Jesus?  Please look up these verses ... 2 Corinthians 11:4, Acts 13:6 and Colossians 4:11.

Moving on:

"So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it"

To inquire of what? To inquire of the familiar spirit, if you read carefully please!

The word of God clearly shows here that while it named the familiar spirit Samuel, Saul was inquiring of a familiar spirit.  Concluding here, that not only did the Lord judge Saul for not keeping the word of the Lord earlier on, but "also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit"!  Here it clearly says that Saul did "inquire of it"!  "It" being not a person, but a thing!  A spirit!  Saul inquired of a familiar spirit, in other words, and not Samuel the prophet.  Who manifested itself as in the appearance of Samuel.  It is also clear that this is the very reason Saul went to this woman:

"And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee."

Therefore, we can see here that Saul wanted this woman (a witch) to divine a familiar spirit up from the nether world, and then he  would name it.  This is first degree sorcery all the way.  Saul wants to conjure, or get someone, outside of the will of God, to conjure up a familiar spirit (a spirit which impersonates the dead) then call it Samuel, for convenience sake.  This is how deceived and desperate this cut-off man from God was.  Coz Saul could no longer hear from God, he then chooses the wrong source instead, to get direction or hear from.  By using this wrong source (a witch in this case) Saul is deceiving himself into believing he will be able to hear from deceased Samuel, knowing very well he was down with the other OT saints in Abraham's Bosom, and the reason he said, "bring me him up?"

The other point made here:  In Abraham's bosom, beneath the earth, it was sealed off from the earth and its inhabitants.  Therefore, it would have been impossible for Samuel to come back as this compartment was sealed off from the outside world.  The very reason scripture talks about the spirits in prison where Christ went down to preach to, "that He
might bring us to God", once the keys of death and hell were retrieved by His descending down after the crucifixion took place.  Here the OT saints, along with paradise, were set free, to ascend with Him into heaven.  Until then, they were locked up in the earth awaiting the cross.  Where there was no one able to visit them, or where they we not able to wander away from.  Jesus now had the power over all this.

Furthermore, ghosts do not exist in the worldly sense, as we have just seen through scripture.  That is in the sense of a person coming back from the dead to haunt or comfort someone in the future.  As no record is made of this occurring, then this is what scripture calls a familiar spirit being brought up.  Who apparently, do have access to and fro from the bottomless pit to earth, and so forth.  Remembering, scripturally, a ghost is the spirit of a person, which is given up when they die.  The modern perversions are doing a "beautiful" job for Satan, in twisting all this around using deception, while aiding the devil's cause at the same time.

Praying to the dead

The Bible also strictly forbids praying to the dead (conversing with or acknowledging a departed soul) which it calls necromancy.  Understanding, this was another transgression Saul was making.  Moreover, when someone willfully transgresses, they are never going to conjure up God's approval or cooperation are they?  However, from scripture we learn that the only way God will act in this unlawful situation, is by handing the transgressor over to a lying spirit.  Therefore, in learning this divine principle through the word we have seen how the spirit Saul
unlawfully conjured up was in essence not Samuel the prophet, but a lying spirit masquerading as Samuel.

Moving on, have you noticed in the last few years how funerals have taken on a new meaning
(I will use this old fashion name) by the advent of the New Age dawning on the populace, and how things have been redefined for a new era and to suit the new era?  This also affects the world's new (old) way of coping with death and the great loss of a loved one.  Remember Prince Di's funeral, over a decade ago (my, how time flies!)?  With the setting of an international precedence ... as the whole world tuned into this event!  And where mourning, traditionally as the centrality of these solemn events, was contrasted now with colour, pop music, and items, in away never seen like this before in the West!

Once people use to wear dark colours and funerals were very drab as black stood for mourning.  Where people condolence not praise, was the centralization of the event.  Where the Director was called an Undertaker, the casket a coffin, and the music played was called a dirge (not a bouncy rock song), and it was considered improper if people raised their heads.  In these days the sting of death is less prevalent with alternatives for weeping and tears.  Today, with much colour prevalent (as mentioned) and the event (or service) termed 'a "celebration" of the persons life', despite how charming or wretched they were, jokes, laughter and smiles, are no longer frowned upon but encouraged.  Maybe soon we will see folk dancing down the isle, following the coffin/casket!), as it makes it's way to the hearse (sorry - I mean wagon).

At the end of the day, this turn-around, or development, or unconscious ploy, is understandable, in a world where hope has to be infused somewhere, so man can brush-over the prospect and inevitable event of death.  All in order, to try and artificially (or superficially) remove the sting of death out of the equation.  This way man can avoid being accountable to his Maker, while Jesus' payment on the cross would be made nil and void (but only conveniently used as a mere token, or prop, to ad adornment to a funeral service or religious ceremony).  The problem is (and it is a grave problem - no pun intended) that death is the final departure from a fallen world, before the nightmare really begins.  Unless one is eternally secure, having made their peace with God, through acknowledging Jesus' final and full payment for our sins, on the cross.

Now it is becoming trendy to talk to the dead during a funeral service and as a (understandable way (without the Lord) in coping with the grief.  How very sad of course, and unavoidable in many ways, if folk do not know the Lord.  Or refuse to turn to the Lord.  However, the more folk do this, habitually beyond the funeral service (even using culture and upbringing as an excuse) the more they are opening themselves up to the deceased person's appearance, due to the more they are giving themselves over to the deceptive spirit world and visitations by them in the future.

As already pointed out, Bible believers know these are not true visitations but familiar (counterfeiting) spirits coming back to deceive, making people feel they can find the answers in dabbling in spiritual things outside God's jurisdiction and without His approval in the first place.  This way solutions can be made without God in full denial of a need for His salvation plan.  The fact is, death, without the Saviour, is still the most tragic thing that can happen to anyone.  Therefore, in reality, this should not be a time for celebration, or brushing aside such a tragic event as a tragic advent, but thinking about the futility of life without the Maker, and hopefully turning to Him in the end.

Of course the world in its confused state and unison with very rebellious excuse, will ignore and block out the Maker and go on doing things their way.  The very reason Jesus said (as paraphrased here), "Let the dead bury the dead but you (the called out ones) come follow Me, and only do the things that are pleasing to Me!"

I am not using this occasion to be hard and willingly disrespectful.  It is a matter of only being truthful, as God never allows excuses for avoiding Him and His great salvation?  However, as Bible believers, we need to see things God's way, being aware that necromancy is seen in the same light as seances and fortune telling.   Understanding these things are highly forbidden by our Saviour, with good reasons, and that it is not only a tragedy, but the greatest tragedy of all, when someone dies without Christ.  Furthermore, it is even another tragedy when believers are taken in by this New Age way of thinking, and can't see the seriousness in having conversations with loved ones who have died, who are not there, but are either with Jesus or entrapped in outer darkness, separated from God's love for all eternity.

Our hope while living here in the world (while not being of it) is always "Christ in us"!  While our only hope in departure ...  "to be with Christ; which is far better"!

Updating here ... a brother wrote to me, in response to the above message, and making this quote:
"regarding 1 Samuel, and who is who ...

Could THIS verse be true if it is NOT Samuel speaking?

1Sa 28:17.  And the LORD hath done to him, AS HE spake BY ME: for the LORD hath rent the kingdom out of thine hand, and given it to thy neighbour, even to David:
It could NOT be true, it is Samuel reiterating to Saul what God had spoken THROUGH SAMUEL regarding the kingdom!!"

Name withheld (for confidentiality purposes)
My response (modified to make it more 'reader friendly' while not tampering with the original context):

Hi Bro!

From the next verse we can see that the spirit in this case was FROM GOD.  And it was an EVIL spirit!

1 Samuel 16:23.  "And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul"

Next verse:  God is going to get rid of His prophets and the unclean spirits that went with them.  The prophets (His mouthpieces, His spokesmen) had unclean spirits.  The two went together.  And God was not pleased.

Zech. 13:2.  "And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of hosts, that I will cut off the names of the idols out of the land, and they shall no more be remembered: and also I will cause the prophets and the unclean spirit to pass out of the land."

Who was it that was calling out in the next two verses (23-24)?  The man or the spirit?

"And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God."

Notice how many there were for a start?

"Let us alone" - "what have we to do with thee" - "art thou come to destroy us?"

This can't be the man as he is only one where the spirits are many.  So it must have been the unclean spirit speaking out of the man.

"I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God"!

Also, this was a true prophecy/revelation/statement made by someone! Was it not?  However, was it made by an evil spirit or a man of mere flesh and blood?  Verses 6-7 are undeniably clear:

"But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him,  (who is "he"? - the man or the evil spirit?)  And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not. (how did he know who Jesus really was?)  For he (Jesus in this case) said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.  (now it is obvious who "he" was - yes, the unclean spirit)  And he (Jesus speaking again) asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many."

So again, we see it was the evil spirit speaking and making true statements ... even true predictions!  Therefore, to dismiss someone saying these things is not an evil spirit can no longer stack up.  For further evidence (eliminating your theory completely) look at the following prophesying made by a young girl this time.  You will see that the statement she was making (again by the aid of an evil spirit) was a true statement as well as being scriptural to boot:

Acts 16:17.  "The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation."

There she goes, prophesying, and making a true statement, saying, "These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation."

Then later we discover that is was not really her but the evil spirit, a spirit of divination, that was actually speaking out of this girl.  This actually made it harder for the two apostles to detect the spirit, because what is was prophesying was actually true.  Understanding, it would have been impossible for others to know or fathom this, without the Spirit of the Lord and scripture for back-up.  This is how cunning and crafty these things are, and the reason they are so hard to detect and need discerning spiritually in the Lord.

Notice too that this was in the same context as what we read above in verse 7:  "And cried with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not."

Again, this was the evil spirit when discerned biblically, correctly and spiritually. Coz at a first glance/encounter/appearance, everything in the natural leads us to believe that is was the man, as everyone in Acts thought it was, speaking, and not the evil spirit.  Also, in the case of the girl with the spirit of divination speaking, where no one could see this was actually the unclean spirit speaking, whereas Paul discerned in the Spirit otherwise.  Thus eliminating the threat and the deception this spirit was making, through the channel of this girl.

Therefore, just because a true prophecy is made out of the mouth of a man, it does not mean it is the Holy Ghost and could in actual fact be an unclean, evil spirit.  This is why we are to test the spirits to see whether they be of God or not.  The girl with the spirit of divination was making a true statement.  However, in essence, the spirit in her, was actually conveying in error what Paul and Silas had, that they were the same and one with as her, thus approving of her divination and fortune telling (see the clever ploy?) .

We also no this was not true of course, as the Spirit of God is not out to create attention.  True men and women of God are not attention seekers.  Also, they do not make merchandise out of truth or exploit others for gain.  The Bible says to buy the truth but sell it not.  The Bible is also very clear (as already sufficiently pointed out) that we are not to speak to the dead (necromancy).  However, if we do, this will be followed by a nasty sting on the end of its tail.  Coz, no one can actually benefit in the end, from speaking to someone they think is the actual person, when in reality, it is only a counterfeiting spirit, taking on the name of the person, and duplicating to a tee, their personality, while masquerading as that person.  In other words, when someone is blatantly disobedient to God's command while looking for spiritual strength, guidance, or provision from another source, they are playing with fire, while opening themselves up to a curse and not a blessing at all, and playing right into the arms of the devil.

If a servant of God is hell-bent in doing things his way, for his own reasons, having known the truth then rejected it, then God will hand that person over to delusion.  Thatza lying spirit!  Moreover, the more the person resists the truth because they chose to be deceived, the more God will keep handing them over to what's not true.  Until, in the end, they are completely deceived and are good for nothing in God's eyes.  How does God do this?:

If God's people are in rebellion and someone who knows the truth, will not bring the truth, but for the sake of comfort and being men pleasing, or non confrontational, God will take this very seriously.  Coz after a while, an evil spirit will soon pick up on this, then come before the Lord and offer and plead his services.  If the evil spirit proves to have a case against this person, God will then allow that spirit to go down and deceive this unrepentant person, who is supposed to be God's child, while refusing to have a love for the truth.

Don't believe me here?  Too cruel or too harsh?  Especially for God!  Then get this Divine principle directly from the scriptures found here in 1st Kings 22:

18  And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but evil?
19  And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left.
20  And the LORD said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner.
21  And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will persuade him (is this an evil spirit or an angel of God? - read on).
22  And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.
23  Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil concerning thee.

Sounds very much like the witch that Saul sought counsel from and the spirit which came up from the abyss, disguised as Samuel, as an old man covered with a mantle (Sam. 28: 13-14)!  It came as a lying spirit in other words ...  telling the truth concerning Saul's fate!

I think
my response back to this brother finished about here.  I trust he will now see just because a spirit says the right things, it does not rule out it being an evil spirit. Nor does it mean it must be of God.  Nor does it mean the Lord will rule out using the evil spirit in His overall, big plan ...  the full picture!

2 Thes. 2:11-12. "And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

Ps. 81:12.  "So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels."

Oh dear, it really looks like God will give up on his people when they become hellbent and so selfwilled to always go their own way.  Moreover, He will even assist them in the process, by giving up on them, through handing them over to the world of deceiving spirits.  Very scary stuff indeed!!   However, if you are already lost, then God can't give up on you or hand you over to be deceived, coz you are already deceived.  Therefore, repentance is called for on this occasion.  It is where you will find the Lord, His truth and be born again.

Still under construction

Numbers 27:16  Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation

Psalms 104:4 & Hebrews 1:7   Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire

Proverbs 16:2 ¶ All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

1 Corinthians 14:32  And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

Hebrews 12:9  Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

Hebrews 12:23  To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,

Revelation 16:14  For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

Read also ...  2 Chronicles 30:7 and Romans 1: 24-26.

Not talking about a spirit being a condition (a right spirit) or a demeanour, but a living created entity by our Maker and Father:

Father of spirits  Father of lights

Luke 12:35  Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;
Philippians 2:15  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world

Heb. 1:5  "For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
6  And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
7  And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire."

13  "But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14  Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"

We have ministering spirits which are unfallen angels (as above
) and we have evil or lying spirits which are fallen angels (as below)!

"For they are the spirits of devils (or devils spirits), working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world"

Conclusive proof that both devils and angels have spirits like men do.  Also, as angels spirits are scriptural so are devils spirits.  One is to minister truth and comfort (the unfallen) and the other is to deceive and torment.  Two opposites and both coming from heaven ... one lot kicked out and coming with wrong intentions and the other still there and coming willingly with good intentions.

Reiterating ...  we find in scripture:

angels spirits
ministering spirits (the same)
devils spirits

Matthew 25:41  Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels

So there are two types of angels all right!

Luke 4:33  And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil,

He did not so much have the devil (spirit with body) but the devils spirit inside him. The devils body was still in the nether world.  Therefore, the devil was an disembodied spirit!

Matthew 8:16  When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
Luke 8:2  And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils
Luke 8:29  (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.)
Luke 9:42  And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.

1 Timothy 4:1  Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils

Revelation 18:2  And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit

A devil is merely an originated created living entity (whether man or any heavenly creature) which has chosen to become corrupted and reprobate.

John 6:70  Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

Judas had to be willingly deceived first before he became a betrayer and a betrayer of God for that matter!

John 13:2  And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him

So we find foul spirits, seducing spirits, lying spirits, tormenting spirits, unclean spirits, evil spirits ...  all coming from devils!

Here is scriptural proof that an angel has a spirit and that fallen angels are therefore evil spirits:

There we go ...  and angel and a spirit are not really the same.  The angel has a body.  It also has a spirit.  This means when the disobedient angels fell (from their habitation - became disembodied) their spirits fell with them.  They were now fallen spirits or evil spirits.

13  "But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool?
14  Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?"

If ministering spirits are angels then fallen angels must be fallen and corrupted ministering spirits.  Mustn't they?  Therefore, they are no longer ministering spirits but corrupting spirits!  Make sense?
