September 2008- May 2009 Tiama will again be working in the Southern ocean with several expeditions to the Sub Antarctic starting with a new 20 day Albatross survey of the outer Snare island in October. July 2007- May 2008 
This Summer we have been working out of the friendly port of Bluff, NZ southern most port, for 12 separate voyages into the Southern Ocean, including 2 voyages to Macquarie for the BBC, most of the work has been science and research support voyages, we also took the designer of Tiama, Alan Mummery for a 12 day trip to Auckland and Campbell island, the season ended with a charter for the NZ Geological and nuclear sciences institute conducting a geological survey of the Wild Fiordland coastline.

September 2006- April 2007
Tiama  has had anopther busy summer working in the Sub Antarctic islands 12 separate expeditions over a 7 month period, most of the work has been as support vessel to the NZ government dept of Conservation (DOC) and the NZ national institute of water  and Atmosphere (NIWA)with a notable expedition to the Auckland islands supporting the White Capped Albatross work carried out by NIWA. we also were the support  vessel during Jack Finns attempt at circumnavigating the Auckland islands by kayak to raise awareness for the hemophiliac foundation.

September 2005- April 2006 Tiama  spend 6 months working out of the Port of Bluff as support vessel for 6 scientific expeditions, including on memorial, 5 week  expedition to the Balleny islands in the Antarctic. this was a Bio diversity/diving expedition for the NZ Ministry of fisheries, We were the first small boat to reach the island in 27 years. and the first small boat ever to stay there for 10 days and  carry out a major scientific survey of the islands. Click here for the full story...

July 2005-September 2005: Tiama's skipper Henk Haazen spend 6 weeks on the Expedition vessel Pelagic Australis in an attempt to pass through the famous North West Passage, crossing over the top of Canada and Alaska from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Due to abnormal heavy ice conditions we had to turn back about half way through, but it laid the foundations for a Polar circumnavigation with Tiama in the near future.

November 2004-April 2005: Tiama spent 6 months working in the NZ sub Antarctic islands visiting all of the islands at least once, and most of them 2 or 3 times, working for the NZ National institute of Water And Atmosphere (NIWA) and for the NZ Dep of conservation supporting their on-going research programs including a 2 week dive charter to the remote Bounty and Antipode islands. We were also the support vessel for a  12-day Wildlife Photography expedition to the Auckland and Campbell islands.

December 2003-March 2004: Tiama  spent 4 months working for the New Zealand department of Conservation carrying out a variety of tasks in support of their conservation and research programs, including being the main support vessel for an unprecedented 2 week long research dive operation in the Auckland islands.

April 2003-august 2003: Tiama  spent 3 months working deep in the jungle of Papua New Guinea, sailing 1200 miles on the Fly and Bamu rivers, working with the local landowners against Malaysian logging companies who were carrying out illegal logging operations in their tribal lands.


January 2003 - March 2003: Tiama spent the southern summer sailing in Fiordland National Park, after which we  spent one month in the NZ sub-Antarctic working with the NZ Department of Conservation as a logistic support vessel for their historic survey of the Auckland Islands.


April 2002 -September 2002: Tiama again participated in a highly successful Peace Flotilla  protesting against MOX Plutonium shipments  transiting the Pacific. The flotilla stopped the ships for a day mid -Tasman.

January 2002 - February2002:
Tiama spent the southern summer working amongst the  New Zealand sub Antarctic islands as support vessel for a kayak and photographic expedition.

December 2000 - April 2001: Tiama sailed from Australia to participate in a peace flotilla against plutonium fuel shipments through the Pacific.  Tiama was one of 8 sailing boats from New Zealand and Australia sailing out into the mid Tasman in February 2001 to form a symbolic chain of protest  and to promote a nuclear free Tasman.  This was followed by a months tour to key southern ports of Australia for Greenpeace.

December 2000 - April 2000:  Tiama's skipper worked with Greenpeace on a floating ice camp on the Beaufort sea in the Arctic conducting a protest against a new offshore oil development by BP

December 1999 - January 2000: a  charter over the new year to the Antipode Islands,-part of New Zealand's sub Antarctic islands in the Southern Ocean. This was part of a project that involved being in a place that would see the sunrise of the new millennium first and sending emails from Tiama using the energy from that first sun of the new millennium.

August - October 1999:a 3 month charter working along the Australian Great Barrier Reef from Cairns to Brisbane.

February - March 1999: a 5 week voyage through the Chilean Patagonian Channels and then back across the Pacific.

January - February 1999: From Ushuaia, Argentina we undertook a 5 week expedition to the Antarctic, with six Australian climbers.






November - December

1998: For her maiden voyage we crossed the Southern Ocean from New Zealand rounding Cape Horn exactly 12 months to the day since we had launched the boat back in New Zealand.
