Pétanque New Zealand runs four National Championships each year. The National Triples in the first weekend of April, the National Singles in the second weekend of October, the National Doubles in the second weekend of November and the National Senior Doubles in the second weekend in December.

In 2008, a National Women's Triples will held in the second weekend in February.

Entry to the National Singles, Doubles and Triples is open to any financial member of of a pétanque club affiliated to Pétanque New Zealand. To enter the National Senior Doubles, a player must also be over the age of 60 years. To enter the National Women's Triples a player must also be female.
