Wellington defeated Hawke's Bay in the inaugural inter-region match played in Palmerston North.
After the first round of games Hawke's Bay held a narrow lead by winning two of the three doubles games with the singles shared. In the second round, the singles were again shared, however Wellington won all three doubles games to lead 24 points to 18. With the triples to play, Wellington required two wins to take the match, while Hawke's Bay required three wins. Following the lunch break, Wellington stormed through the final session winning all four triples games to take the match.
