31 January 2008 : French team visit

The French team of Philippe Quintais, Bruno Rocher, Philippe Suchaud and manager Victor Nataf completed their whirlwind tour of New Zealand with an exhibition and melee at Masterton on Tuesday and another exhibition and four games at Otaki on Wednesday.

28 January 2008 : Elections for Regional Delegate - Lower North Island Region

Hi

The Pétanque New Zealand AGM will be held on 19th April 2008 (formal notice to follow shortly).

Elections for Regional Delegates are required to be held prior to the AGM.

At last year's AGM, the Central Region was dissolved, and its clubs allocated to 2 new Regions for governance purposes - Upper North Island and Lower North Island.

Because there are no corresponding Regional Associations, the National Council agreed that PNZ would be responsible for running the process to elect the Delegates for these regions for 2008.

Accordingly, PNZ is now calling for nominations for the positions. These may be made through Clubs, or Regional Associations where they exist (e.g. the Wellington Pétanque Association).

Please forward your nominations to the Secretary, Pétanque New Zealand, by Friday February 22nd 2008.

Nominations should include brief biographical notes on the nominee, to assist the voting process.

Once nominations have been received, they will be circulated to all Clubs in the Region, for voting.

Voting will be via email, with one vote per Club, in line with the provisions for Regional Committees set out in the Constitution (Rule 6.2).

The Lower North Island Clubs are those belonging to the Wellington Pétanque Association (Hataitai, Horowhenua, Kapiti, Khandallah, Manawatu, Masterton, Otaki, Park Avenue, Silverstream, Upper Hutt, Wanganui East, Windy Hills) plus Bay View, HBLT and Napier.

Voting will close at 7.00pm on Saturday 15th March 2008.

The results of the election will be made known to Clubs as soon as possible after the close of voting, but in any event not more than 7 days later.

In the event that only one nomination is received, that person will be declared elected unopposed.

22 January 2008 : Notice of WPA Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting of the Wellington Pétanque Association will be held at the Silverstream Bowling Club, 37 Dunns St, Silverstream on Thursday 21 February 2008 at 7.30pm.

The business of the meeting will include

• President's Report
• Presentation of financial statements for the year ended 31 December 2007
• Setting of Affiliation Fee
• Election of Officers
• Notices of motion or remits (if any).

Nominations will be required for President, Secretary and Treasurer.

The current President and Secretary are not seeking re-election.

Nominations are also sought for the position of WPA Regional Delegate on Petanque NZ.

Clubs wishing to submit notices of motion or remits should send these in writing.

Note: All nominations and Notices of Motion should be sent to the Secretary, 35B Hurley Road, Paraparaumu (jon.mason (at) xtra.co.nz) by 31 January 2008.

At the conclusion of the Annual General Meeting a committee meeting will be held.

20 January 2008 : Avon Kapiti Open Doubles

Michael Rocks and Roy Zeier (Khandallah) won the 2008 Kapiti Open Doubles beating Ian Baker (Herne Bay) and Doug Hay (Masterton) 13-12 in the final of the Olive Cup.

In the Plate A final, Kath and Kaye Alison (Kapiti) beat Andrew Joe (Windy Hills) and Bernadette Lawton (Kapiti). The Plate B final was won by Yvonne Futcher (Wanganui East) and Nikki Winnie (Kahndallah) over Sue Gurr and Sheryl Parslow (Wanganui East).

6 January 2008 : Park Avenue New Year Open Doubles

Kapiti's Anne and Terry Dawson won the Park Avenue Open Doubles beating Masterton's Barbara and Murray Johnston 13-10 in the final.

In the Plate final, Alison and Ralph Priddle (Masterton) beat Kath and Kaye Alison (Kapiti).

The Bowl was won by Fay Doyle and Harl Stevens (Kapiti) from John Mason and Peter Williams (Kapiti).
