The Summary from the FIPJP (International Pétanque Federation) Executive meeting in April contains a number of decisions regarding the 2010 World Championships. The event will be in Taiwan and the number of participating Federations will be limited to 48. The 2010 event will still be Open, but the next Congress will vote on whether to keep future events Open or make them Men only.
The limitation of entry has seen the host country and defending champions lose their right to enter a second team. They have an automatic place in the tournament. The Oceania region has been allocated three places for 2010, and this will be reviewed from time to time as new Federations join FIPJP.
The Oceania Federation has until to March 2010 to determine which members will earn the three spots. Not all members of the Oceania Federation are members of FIPJP, so Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti and Vanuatu will be competing for the three places. (New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna Islands are the non-FIPJP members of the Oceania Federation).
Prior to the All Blacks-France rugby test in Dunedin, the Caversham Pétanque club were invited to stage a promotion in the town centre featuring local sporting identities.
