Thomas Howkins - c1700 - 1772

As yet, no link has been found between the Hawkins and Howkins families of Northern Oxfordshire. All our family records in England are spelt as Howkins, the spelling did not change to Hawkins until after the family arrived in New Zealand

Thomas Howkins was born in Northern Oxfordshire about 1700. As no parish records for Ardley (see where Ardley is) prior to 1700 have survived we will probably never find the next link. One possibility is a Thomas Howkins who was born in Deddington 1698, currently I am researching this area trying to make a breakthrough.

Thomas married Elizabeth Pybus in Ambrosden Oxfordshire 5 January 1727, in the Parish Register he is listed as coming from Ardley but the Bishops Transcripts say he was from Bucknell. Elizabeth was christened in Stoke Lyne 17 November 1701, the daughter of William and Elizabeth [nee Newton]

Both were buried in Ardley, Thomas on 13 June 1772 and Elizabeth 4 July 1787.

The children of Thomas and Elizabeth were:

1. William Howkins.

2.Anne Howkins.
