A Millennium Hotels Grand Prix, Class 2 Event

Dates: Saturday 11 July 2009 – Tuesday 14 July 2009

Format: NZCF and FIDE rated 8 round Swiss. NZ Master points will be awarded.

Time Control: Game in 90 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.

Venue: Otago Chess Club, 7 Maitland Street, Dunedin.

Prize Fund: Projected minimum $700.

2009 Otago Primary & Intermediate Schools’ Individual Chess Championship

Hosted by the Dunedin Junior Chess Academy


Date: Saturday, 8th August at 1:00pm


Venue: Otago Chess Club, 7 Maitland Street, Dunedin (by ‘The Oval’ playing fields)


Director: The Director of Play (DOP) will be Quentin Johnson (Otago Chess Club Treasurer and Dunedin Junior Chess Academy Coach)

Eligibility: This event is open to all primary and intermediate school players (Years 1– 8 inclusive). Players may enter as individuals or as a team of three players from the same school. Parents of children under 8 years old must contact the DOP before they enter their child in the event.


Format: Six games in total, limit of 20 minutes thinking time per player in each game.


Schedule: Players’ meeting at 1.00pm. NB Late entries (after 1.10pm) may not be accepted. Prize-giving shortly after 5.00pm. Parents/caregivers are requested to be at the venue by 5.15pm


Prize Fund: There will also be prizes for leading place getters as well as special prizes including the best girl and best school team.


Entry Fees: Individual entry fee: $10.00

Team entry fee (3 players): $20.00


Entries due: Entry restricted to the first 40 players who have paid their entry fees.

Individual entries close at 1:00 pm (sharp) – just before start of play.

Otago Junior Chess Championship

Hosted by the Otago Chess Club Inc.


Date: Saturday, 22nd August at 11:40am


Venue: Otago Chess Club, 7 Maitland Street, Dunedin (by ‘The Oval’ playing fields)


Format: 6 Round Swiss, rapid time limit of 25 minutes for the game.


Schedule: Players’ meeting at 11.40am. Late entries (after 11.50am) may not be accepted. Play will commence ASAP after midday. Prize-giving shortly after 5.20pm. All parents/caregivers are asked to be at the venue by 5.30pm.

Eligibility: This event is open to all juniors (under 20 on 1/1/09) residing in the Otago/Southland region. Players may enter as individuals or as a team of three players from the same school. Parents of children under 12 must contact the DOP before they enter their child in the event.


Prize Fund: The prize fund will be contingent on entries. Cash prizes to Otago title-holders (Open, Under 16, Under 13 champions). There will also be special prizes which will include the best girl and best school team.


Entry Fees: Individual entry fee: $15.00

Team entry fee (3 players): $30.00


Entries due: Individual entries close at 11.50am (sharp) – just before start of play.
