The Romney breed is a truly dual purpose breed used for both Wool and Meat.  At the Omega Stud most of the lines have a wool spinning count in the range of 46 - 48 (31 - 34.5 microns)  with a few slightly stronger wools in the 44 - 46 (above 35 microns) range.   With the demand of heavy wools dropping off and the better markets for the finer wools, Omega have been actively selecting finer wool Romneys in its breeding programme.   The Romney is still the most common breed in New Zealand, offering good stock as a basis for cross breeding.
