The installer includes the screensaver itself and some documentation.

System Requirements

Colour Depth: A display depth set to High Colour (thousands) or higher is reccomended for the best quality image.

If you do want to run the screensaver in a low- colour environment (eg 256 colours) then I reccomend you set the gradient size on the Colour tab of preferences to a low count (eg 16) for the best experience.

Operating System: Any version of Windows from 95 up.

I've tested the screensaver myself on Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0 and XP. Satisfied users have reported that it works correctly on both Windows ME and Windows 2000.

Memory: 32MB or better.

While running, the screensaver needs a few megabytes of memory. Essentially, if your computer has sufficient memory to run the operating system well, it has enough memory to run this screensaver.

Licensing

This application is freeware - use it or not, at your choice. Pass it along, or not, at your choice. The only restriction is that you distribute only the original file as downloaded.

Overview of nicheMANDELBROTsaver

The era of screensavers as necessary tools has long past - the modern screensaver is more about pleasure and entertainment than nebulous security or hardware protection.

nicheMANDELBROTsaver is a screensaver that automatically generates images from what is known as the Mandelbrot fractal.

The Mandelbrot fractal is a mathematical curiosity that produces some striking images when magnified. A high-level view of the fractal is shown here.

Geek Note: The fractal is found on the complex number plane in the region -2-2i to 2+2i. Each pixel in an image represents a single point from this region. The colour of a pixel is determined by the speed at which the sequence zn = zn-12 + z0 tends to infinity. Phew!
