KOTUKU

Navigator designed by John Welsford

"Kotuku"  (Maori for 'White Heron') was built over a period of 9 months, March  to November 2004 by Peter Kortens and Alaster Stewart. Since then she has been to Lake Taupo, to Lake Tarawera, to two wooden boat shows at Plimmerton and she has raced on the waters inside Kapiti island on most  Sundays during summer.

A 25kg lead tip has been added to the centre board, a gennaker has been knocked up from "rip stop" nylon and the original spars have been changed from aluminium to Oregon. The side support rollers on the trailer have been replaced by carpet covered skids and the small solid jockey wheel is now a large inflatable (much better on the beach).
