Freelance Artist, Professional Teacher and Promoter of Bonsai

Joy has more than 30 years experience as a demonstrator and tutor.
Joy is co-owner of the commercial Bonsai Studio and Nursery 'Joy's Bonsai Studio'.

Under the tutelage of Dorothy Koreshoff Joy has gained Diplomas in Bonsai/Saikei from the Bonsai Art Academy in Sydney, an authorised branch of the Nippon Bonsai-Saikei Institute of Tokyo, Japan. These Diplomas include Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced I & II certificates.

Joy has 'Study and Advancement of Bonsai' certificate from Bob Langholm, of Auckland, New Zealand.

Joy is a founding member, and honoured as a life member, of the Gore Bonsai Club.

Joy has been involved in the Otago Bonsai Society for many years, holding offices as President, vice-President, and Secretary. She was made a Life Member in 2003.

Joy's experiences have included participation in the steering committee for the formation of the New Zealand Bonsai Association, and in helping to organise several South Island conferences and conventions. Joy has been awarded a 'Certificate of Distinction' by the Association. 

As a teacher and demonstrator Joy conducts and teaches at:

Joy has participated in National and International events such as:
  • Sydney Convention 1984, with Peter Adams
  • ABC Penrith Convention 1992

Her work has been exhibited widely at various events and shows in the South Island:
