The ICYE long term programme

Through our long term programmes, International Cultural Youth Exchange reaches out to young people who wish to widen their horizons in a crucial period of their lives.

ICYE offers people between the ages of 16 and 25 (This varies from country to country) an experience based international learning programme.

Our aims are to heighten young people's sensitivity towards social and cultural differences and to enhance their self confidence and problem solving abilities, as well as their awareness of contemporary local and global issues.

ICYE participants attain this through living with a family and/or a local community in a foreign country, and by sharing their experiences with an international group or young people, and by being engaged in a community or social work project, or by attending the local high school.

ICYE national committees, with their worldwide network of motivated coworkers, carefully select and prepare programme participants before departure.

The national committees organise introductory intercultural and language courses for those just arriving on their exchange and provide support and guidance for participants, host families and work projects.

The national committees also organise mid exchange year and final evaluation conferences.
