Some experiences from my dealings on  Tradme.co.nz

On the whole, most people are trustworthy and make an effort to correctly
describe  the goods they are selling.

After all the whole process relies on trust and the folks at Trademe tend not to
get involved in anything,
just try contacting them from their contact page to see what I mean.

The sort of problem I have had here I think is the sort of thing that goes on when
traders bring their commercial operation online.

Reference auction # 16234017
Recently I had the misfortune to trade with kent2004 aka wombatnz@xtra.co.nz

Te short of it is;
I won an auction for an item,
I had asked if it was in good working order.
Kent2004 said ‘it was fine’.

When I got it, it clearly was not fine and when I tested it, it did not work.
It is suffering from a long and fruitful life on the job as a tradesman’s tool.
I have made contact with the New Zealand agents and can get it repaired.

What I expected was something I could use straight away.

I still think Trademe is a great system, but as always in the commercial world, caveat emptor!

Below is a copy of correspondence I had with kent2004,
His final post to the website feedback section at Trademe was to turn
around and say I was trying to con him.
But as you can see I never at any stage asked for money,
All I wanted was a decent explanation as to why the goods were not as described.
Still I suppose he has to justify to himself somehow.

Communications to complete the trade.

I have copy & pasted the text from the email program.
All I have removed is the internet IP address header information which only shows where around the internet the mail has gone.
Which is basically around in circles within Xtra.

I had to paste together various threads as kent2004 kept starting new ones instead of
just replying each time and keeping it all together.

I had asked you if the gun was in good working order and you said it was
fine.
Why then does it continually bleed air out the exhaust and not fire?
That to me is not working?

And it could not have been tested as the air inlet was blocked.

What's up?

Communications after the trade.

(- my comments)

First I emailed wanting to know why the item he sent me was not as described. This can be seen at the top of the first thread.

I waited just over 24hours for a reply before I red faced him on trademe.

Then I received a reply, the text is pasted below.

I think there is a very simple rule that should be followed that would

prevent this sort of thing happening.

Be up front from the start about the state of the items you are selling.

Further to his response on trademe.

As can be seen, at no time in any of this have I asked for any money,

so his comments about me ripping him off are just yet another attempt to justify what he has done.

(- end of my comments)

If you did not know yourself that the unit was not operational, ie
relying on the word of others, why did you not say so?

You had no right to state it was fine if you did not know for sure.

I see in the feedback that this has been an issue in the past and you
made a smart-arse comment that the person should have asked.
Well I asked and still got burnt.

You had a chance to respond to my email but chose to sit on it.
Zero response is zero response.

Then putting conditions on rectifying it first up is not a good look.

The facts are the facts.

Threatening me with negative feedback on posting the facts is up to you.
I will just post the facts in response, and leave it up to others to
judge for themselves.
