Some insights into the construction of
"Caught in the act of falling..."

Caught in the act of falling...

I had heard there were a few queries about parts
of this scene so I have put this little piece together
for those who were (or are still) curious.
In a way its sort of like a review for myself as well.
In the midst of a picture one usually doesn't sit back
and say to oneself..."well, how did I do that".
Hope you all enjoy it.

The Lighting
Initially the lighting consisted of only a squared spotlight situated outside the stained glass window with the attributes as follows.
Light intensity = 190
Edge softness = 25
...and with the settings colour, white; linear falloff; volume visible and infinite light enabled. With sunlight disabled this gave the sunlight streaming through window effect.

But with the suggestion of a few from a Bryce Forum chat session I added a few extra radial lights.

Intensity 40, Softness 0, Colour white, squared falloff

Intensity 60, Softness 0, Colour white, squared falloff

Intensity 20, Softness 0, Colour white, squared falloff

This threw gentle light into areas that otherwise were nearly hidden from view. Without them the wall texture was almost invisible and the painting hardly showed up at all out of the darkness.
