| F/x ual Graphics' Gardening Guide |
| A group of tutorials dealing with a variety of objects of a flora persuasion |
| 1.Pseudo-Foxgloves | 2.Ground Ferns |
| The initial tutorials in this guide will cover a couple of the items from the accompanying scene. Firstly the tall pink (or purple) flower which was based loosely on a foxglove or aconitum style of plant and secondly, the ground fern. As you will see from the following pages both are relatively easy to construct and the base objects from both are produced exclusively in Bryce 3D's terrain editor. |

| Basic terrain editor work and multireplication are the keys to creating this particular plant. As the majority of it is multireplication a bit of extra time spent perfecting the initial objects to replicate will definitely pay dividends in the long run. |

| The Leaf Whirl | |

Top, side and front view of the initial leaf whirl, the leaf a symmetrical lattice, the stem a terrain. The beauty of using a symmetrical lattice for the leaf is that the join of the lattice gives you a perfect middle vein. And if you're wondering about the use of the term whirl...well you'll see in a minute. We're going to whirl it around quite a bit. |
| The Leaf. Step1. | |
| In the main Bryce window select a symmetrical lattice from the create palette, enter the terrain editor and select new. | |
| Start with a circle as shown, full flow and with almost full hardness. Throw a bit of smoothing at it at this stage to take off the rough sides. |

| The Leaf. Step2. | |
| Using a subtractive circle the same size as above treat your terrain as shown. You'll notice I've also tipped the upper point of the crescent that remains. | ![]() |
| The Leaf. Step3. | |
| Now for the final touches. The addition of a stalk, using the space bar to determine the leaf blade height and reducing the greyscale down from this to get the desired stalk height. | ![]() |
| Then a gradual smoothing bit by bit till the desired shape is reached. Final step.. raise the clipping bracket to remove as much of the base as needed. And there you have it. Now take it back to main Bryce window and we'll continue from there. | |
