Sick & Tired of Feeling Sick & Tired
Author: P. Donohue & M. Siegel
Published: WW Norton & Co., NY (1992)This book is written by two psychologists who both have a chronic illness. It is very well-researched, and Crohn's disease features, along with other long-term illnesses such as multiple sclerosis. The book gives many accounts of people's personal struggles with "invisible chronic illness". It sets out to enable the reader to identify with others, to encourage and challenge the reader, and to provide them with detailed information relating to the impact of chronic illness on both the patient and their family and friends. It also aims to help those family and friends to understand things from a patient perspective, and to manage the situation in a more positive manner.
The book was both helpful and challenging - the quotations/inspirations at the end of each chapter were a highlight. In addition, the chapters on "Consulting a Doctor" and "Getting and Keeping the Attention of the Healthcare System" were very useful.
