I’ve gotten really slack about writing these. Maybe I need to write myself a database-backed, web-based weblog type backend.
Yeah, I haven’t made any updates for ages. I could say that I’ll change that, but I wouldn’t want to get your hopes up.
First up today: in an uncharacteristic moment of not worrying just how crap anyone thinks it is, I’ve come up with a contender for shortest S.F. stories of all time:
“And that’s where it ended?” he asked.
“No, that’s where it all began.”
Uh, yeah. Whatever. At least it’s a better gimmick than some novels I’ve read. You just have to use your imagination!
Also tonight, I feel like I’ve signed a bit of my life over to VA Linux while starting the process of setting tn5250 up as a Sourceforge project, and clicking “I Agree” on all the disclaimers, etc. There’s nothing terrible about any of the conditions; I guess it’s just symbolic.
So why am I sitting at home on Friday night in front of my computer, instead of going out to a pub and having a few drinks, or a few more drinks? Last night I went out to the University of Canterbury to see the concert by Garageland and The Superjesus, along with a local supporting act whose name I didn’t catch. I’m still buzzing from it, and my ears are still ringing too; but I’m also just a little tired, so I’m staying at home giving my web pages some attention and chatting a bit with Gabber.
Instant concert review: Awesome! Garageland were even better than I expected, and I realised halfway through their set that I’d bought their latest album a few months ago. The whole crowd knew a lot of the songs they performed — I don’t think I’d realised how many of the popular NZ songs are by Garageland.
It must be pretty rare to see crowd-surfing during a cover of a Neil Diamond song, too!
The Superjesus took a bit of time to get on stage after Garageland, but it was worth the wait. I didn’t recognise as many of the songs, partly since I haven’t bought Jet Age yet, and didn’t even know about Sumo. Maybe I was listening to the wrong radio stations when it came out. Now I’ll just have to go out and buy both of them.
Sarah McLeod, the singer for The Superjesus, said part of the way through the set that Christchurch was the best place they’d played at in New Zealand so far, and that the crowd really rocked, so they’re obviously a really great band!
