Introduction

The following are theoretical devices that I think would be rather cool to have. Some of these may exist, although not in the public; may not exist, but are theoretically possible (depending on the theories applied); are totally and utterly improbable and are only listed because: A) I am only guessing, or B) I think it sounds cool.
NOTE: As of this point of time, and as you shall probably notice, the following is not complete. If you have any ideas for new technologies then send me an E-mail.

Mechanical Devices

Replicator:
Holographic Projector:
"Holographic" Medical Repair Unit:
Mind Control Device:
Time and Space Camera:
Teleporter (Time and Space):
VERY, VERY long range communications device:
Free Energy Device:
Matter Disintergrator:
AntiGravity Device:

E.H.A. (Enhanced Human Awareness)

Note: These are abilities that could be achived by a person of E.H.A.
Telepathy:
Telekenesis:
Remote Viewing:
"Holographic" Medical Repair:
Shape Changing:
Teleporting (Time and Space)

Submitted Ideas

* Heat/Power generation by opening a link to 100000 kms off a suns surface. (alternative energy source to nuclear reactors)

* Computer storage device - you could store info on a molecular level, and access it by knowing the co-ordinate(frequencies) of the info in the matrix.

* HyperDrive/WarpDrive

From -- Joscha.
Soon to be achieved:

- Computer screens made up of a single sheet of a thin, flexible carrier substance, with microscopic spherical pigments, coloured on one side, in them. Thus, the colour of a spot of this sheet could be changed by tiny wires embedded in the carrier material. How does it work?-- the wires emit an electromagnetic field which orients the pigments to show either their black or their white side. Since the pigment particles are very small, almost no friction occurs. If the carrier is covered with a thin, transparent coating, the pigments cannot escape and the life of the screen is prolongued.

A screen like this would be very cheap, perhaps disposable, light, and it could be folded and carried everywhere. It could have a proper resolution and contrast, comparable to that of a Newpaper, too, thus replacing printed media.

- Artificial Assassin-Insects: tiny hovering probes capable of stinging an unwanted person, say, a Business Round Table member, to death. The Americans started University research on that quite a while ago, so the enemy will have them first, unfortunately ;-) The threat should be sufficient to make it possible for us to make at least some of the alternative technology accessible to the public (since it will ruin the profits of the major companies). Well, it is not really nice, perhaps.

- Improved food-preparation to eliminate the need of animal farming, thus multiplying the number of people that can be fed, and reducing the pollution.

Later:

- Anti-G-drives for big, nice and comfortable air vehicles.

- Nano-tech microbes to insert into the bloodstream, repairing the genome of all cells on a molecular level, thus offering everlasting youth, health, recovery from cancer, and so on -- as long as we like.

- Self-replicating nano-machines that can assemble themselves into any structure we want.

Non-tech-achievements:

- A control mechanism against the growth of economical structures and to limit their influence.

- A restructuring of world trade and national economies. People should be sent to universities as much as possible and for free, because: - we don't need the majority of people as a workforce any more (that's why we have so many people unemployed) - we produce goods and services more effective than we ever did, so they can be made available on a wider basis - we have to feed anybody in our community anyway, and it is better to have educated, inventive and cultured people in universities, paid by the community, than to have desparate, drug-addicted, violent and ruthless long- term unemployeds around, whose living is also paid by the community, but with an addition to pay for the probles caused by them
